Hex shanks are used higher speed machining operations due to its angled shape. They are constructed of six sides and fit into a quick change chuck. They are commonly made of a 1/4 inch shank. High Speed Steel provides good wear resistance and can be used in general purpose applications on both ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Oxide coating prevents chip building, galling and welding on the work-piece. It is commonly used on low carbon metals, stainless steel and ferrous metals.
