Assess and Reduce the Risks for Hearing Loss in the Workplace
December 11, 2019
Top 3 Ways to Assess and Reduce Hearing Loss in the Workplace
Access the Risks
- Do a walk-through of your workplace to identifying areas with high noise levels
- Map out the noise sources
- Assess the level of noise to which workers are exposed:
- Measure area noise level with a sound level meter
- Measure personal exposure with a dosimeter wore by the worker
- Measure Frequency by hiring a professional Noise Consultant
Reduce the Risks
- Noise exposure can be reduced through job rotation, decreasing the time spent in noisy areas
- If possible, eliminate noise at the source. When noise can't be reduced to safe levels, properly fit affected workers with earplugs or/and noise-blocking earmuffs
- Create a management system for noise control & hearing loss prevention for your workplace
